we are covered under my husbands insurance and it's about $200 per month with a $1,500 deductible on hospitalization and then 70/30 after the deductible. There's a higher plan available which is double that with a $1k deductible and 80/20 afterwards. We can see any physician without a referral and the cost is $20. It includes vision and dental. I think it's a pretty good deal, thru AETNA. I'm thankful and satisfied.

in australia, nearly everyone have medicare (which covers you for nearly everything).
however it doesnt cover you optical, dental and ambulance service.
i paid $300 a year for the things that are not covered by medicare...

must admit its a very good system,

fyi. i am shocked at how much americans have to pay for their health insurance

I have Blue Shield of California PPO with a $5,000 deducible, but they cover 80% after that up to like $5 million--so we're good if anything catastrophic happens AND it covers maternity, if that was to happen (hard to find a reasonable plan that covers that). Plus we each get a free doctor's visit per year (and for me ob/gyn visit with pap). For my husband & I, our coverage is $128/month. Not too bad, IMHO.

Not bad at all but I'm wondering what your age group is. Insurance gets more expensive as you get older.

I would be paying $890 for myself (40-50) and 2 children (21 and 13) from BC/BS in South Carolina. I would have to meet $1,000 deductible before they cover at 80/20 to $2Mil. No employer contribution here since I am/was self-employed.

This info really means nothing without age groups, state of residence and employer contribution, if any.

I pay $300/mo but that's just for me. If I opted for the family plan, it would have been $800/mo.

Absurd.

My employer had a pretty decent PPO plan through BCBS up until now. Starting in 2010 that PPO plan now comes with a 250 dollar deductible per person, then 10 percent coinsurance and a copay as well. And to make matters worse, I am now paying an additional 17 percent out of my pay for alot less coverage. Hospitalization used to be covered 100 percent. Now it is only 90 percent and we have a family member with a chronic medical condition. that really hurts.

I am on Medicare.
I pay about $100 a month for Part B, and another $180 a month for AARP Supplemental.
So for about $280 a month I get full coverage with no deductions or co-pay, and get to chose my own doctors and specialists.
I have had some very expensive procedures such as a series of head to toe MRIs which were fully covered.
I have no drug coverage, but I get each of my prescriptions at WalMart or K-Mart for $10.00 for a three month supply.
