You may want them to check for "Bright's Disease." My brother had this condition in his early 20s and most likely is not your condition but better to be safe.

"Bright's disease is a historical classification of kidney diseases that would be described in modern medicine as acute or chronic nephritis. The term is no longer used, as diseases are now classified according to their more fully understood causes. It is typically denoted by the presence of serum albumin (blood plasma protein) in the urine"

Can also be a symptom of bladder cancer.

Hopefully it is just kidney stones, but to be safe - see a specialist (urologist) to make sure everything is okay.

(My father (81) has bladder cancer - ONLY symptom was blood in urine).

They did take a sample last time and I'm not sure what was done with it but I assume it was tested for signs of something serious. Not really any other major symptoms, occasionally an uncomfortable sensation almost like abdominal cramping.
The urine sample would have been sent off for culture to see if any bacteria were present.
Usually a urine infection causes burning when you pu and you may notice smelly urine. Doesn't sound like you have any of these symptoms.
You should have had bloods taken.
The abdo pain could be bladder spasm-needs to check your prostate gland (rectal exam) and take blood to check prostate.
Kidney stones usually cause back pain rather than abdominal pain.

FYI, I had a catscan today and it is a kidney stone. Apparently quite a large one at that, 7mm. Not sure what the next step is, waiting to hear back from urologist. Apparently this is too large to pass.

One way is lithrotripsy (spelling?), where the doc uses sound waves to break up the stone. Then you pass the fragments. Can be relatively painless or not, the passing part that is. I drove a friend to/from the hospital for this procedure. He was quite happy afterwards, some good drugs were used. It's usually an outpatient procedure. The benefit is that it is not invasive.

a 7mm stone! They'll either try lithotripsy (non-invasive way to crush stones) or go in surgically. I can't believe you weren't in any sort of discomfort!

If anyone is interested, here is an update on this...which is really just an interesting overview of the frustrations that come with medical care these days, in my opinion. Here I am, Monday, almost a week after the blood in my urine started...nothing has happened. My general practitioner was quite concerned about this on Friday afternoon, she said I'll likely be in the emergency room at some point over the weekend. Other than some slight pain (pain is actually too strong of a word, really just a sensation), I've had no symptoms. The blood in my urine is now gone. My GP had contacted a urologist late Friday afternoon...I got in touch with them, and said they were discussing my case and trying to figure out what to do...wow, I thought...they are all over it...Finally at about 4:30 on Friday, the receptionist at the urologist office says they want me to go to the hospital and have some x-rays...huh...surprising in that I had a full cat scan just that morning. Ok, I'm not going to argue...but seems weird...so I go on Friday to the hospital, which is about 20 minutes away...fortunately they take me in quickly and the x-rays are done...and then...that's it...I go home...Still waiting for all heck to break loose. Saturday morning, no changes...I call the Urologist answering service to try & get an answer as to what I'm supposed to do...can I go out and live my life or should I be at home waiting for something to happen? They page the urologist on call who quickly calls me. It's obvious he hasn't seen my x-rays or cat scan...sigh. Basically I have to tell him what is going on all over again. He says "don't leave town", but also says I can do whatever I want, basically.

So that's what I did, and now I'm back at square one. Being that 3 days have passed, I'm thinking they may wind up re-doing all of the x-rays &/or cat scans to see if the stone has moved? Anyway, very frustrating...I feel like I'm being held hostage by this "little" 7 mm mass...

I can totally relate. I went through many of the same frustrations, in fact I've decided to write a detailed account of my experience. I'll edit this to add the link when I finish it.

FWIW, I had a very large stone that was blasted with the lithotripsy. Most of the pieces were like grains of said, but I had a few big pieces. One was 7x2, another was 4x5.

I passed the 7x2 piece easily--much to my surprise--but the 4x5 piece was very difficult and almost required a second lithotripsy. The good news is, it passed on its own and now that it's out of me I'm glad I gave it just a little extra time (not that I recommend waiting forever).

So I can understand why the doctors want to wait a little. They're probably giving you a little time to see if you pass that stone on your own. If you do that's a good way to go.

ps. They probably won't redo a CT. They might want a fresh KUB (the second x-ray you had done). They use the KUB to position the lithotripsy machine. If you have a stent you will also get a KUB done before it's removed.

After the kidney stone resolves, whatever method that may be, please seek the advice of a nutritionist on preventing kidney stones in the future. The docs won't tell you to give up caffeine or soda. They won't tell you what to avoid so you never have to go through this again. You have to search for answers/do some research yourself. I don't drink caffeine except the occasional green tea, I never drink carbonated beverages. I do enjoy rooibos tea which has been found to fight kidney stones. Good luck.
