Default High Blood Calcium Level?

I just had my doctor call me back in to discuss my blood tests with me, and she wants me to repeat some tests and have others to determine why I have high blood calcium level.

Has anyone experienced this and what was the cause?

I have done a little internet research and found the most common cause is hyper-parathyroidism, but there are other causes as well. I am sure I will not know until I get back into the doc with the new test results.

It could just be lab error too. My gram had that after she had to take a "water pill" for awhile to deal with some heat edema. It was drug induced.

I can't really add too much to the discussion yet since I haven't had the next round of tests done. It may sound weird but I am hoping it is a parathroid tumor that can be removed and relieve my whole host of symptoms that fit with hyperparathyroidism.

Ironically enough, I went in to the doc to have tests for endocrine/metabolic disorders related to thyroid and diabetes because these both run in my family. I realize the parathyroid is another thing (than thyroid) but they are related in that they are all endocrine issues.

It will be another week before I get back in with my doc to discuss the next round of tests.

About it being a lab error, I do realize this is possible, but I am completely unmedicated and had been fasting for 16 hours (I didn't realize the time I was supposed to be at the lab was actually my dr appt time). Just an added note, since it was already so late in the day, and having fasted that long, it may actually have shown out less than it actually was upon waking. <What I have read is that your blood calcium levels are highest upon waking>.

It's probably a lab error and that's why your doctor would like you to come back in and do a different test. They will probably run an iCal on you and it will come back normal. Sometimes there are errors at the lab, unfortunatly.
Hope all is well with you.
