You should try stretching on an exercise ball. Lay back on it to stretch your ab muscles. Listen to me, like I know what I am talking about. LOL. But it just seems like it would feel good, in fact, I'm gonna do it now. Good luck Foma, you're the best!!

You're right, as we get ..... uh.... "on in age" stretching before exercise become more and more important, especially if we wait 8 years between workouts.
lol ... thanks for reminding me that I waited 8 years. Actually, I love to stretch. I'm not yoga-stretchable but I think considering my circumstance, I'm in decent shape!
Thanks for all the advice y'all. Yesterday I did 80 crunches but in 20 increments and had no problem. The time b4 that, I did 60 crunches in one sitting and that's when the cramping started. I guess your advice helped! I should start looking into supplements, too. I been drinking a glass of milk every morning lately and putting it in my smoothies for dinner at night but I'll definitely look magnesium ... maybe a multi-vitamin or something. Thanks again folks!
yeah see ive had the slightest of twitch the other day in my upper abs on the right under my pec and i stopped and rolled over and arched my back because i know the feeling of cramp when it's going to happen but its never happend to me before around my abs and it happend just 30 mins ago and i did the same as i said above. but my abs are extremely strong and i've been doing like 100 crunches a day and a few different styles of sit- ups, with a day or two rest and i have'nt had this problem but now i can't manage like 60-80 crunches even if i warm up correctly and warm down. is it my diet? is it some sort of hernia problem? really bad gas i don't know, but i do know it's not my age as im only a 20year old male and have been healthy since i was a small one. any suggestion or advice would help!
I know that when my leg cramps, people say I don't have enough potassium and to load up on bananas. I don't know if that is transferrable to the abdominal area. I'm assuming it is. My problem was transitioning from a sedentary lifestyle to an active lifestyle. I've been working out regular for6 months now, started doing abs at the 3 month mark or so (when I wrote this thread) and now I haven't had any cramping. *thank goodness*
Anytime I do abdominal crunches, I cramp pretty badly. I'm like scared to do them now. Today, I used one of those machines at the gym and it happened again. Three other times before that (in the span of 3 years) I had done good ol' fashion crunches and I cramped then, too. I need to do them but I'm scared of the muscle cramps ... they hurt like crazy! Any advice?
Oh yeah, and does anybody know why it happens? I haven't done crunches consistently since college (9 years ago) so hubby thinks it's b'c my ab muscles are very weak. This totally sucks!
I wouldn't do crunches if I were you because they don't work to create strong abs and they may cause you back and neck problems in the future--speak from experience.
I have learned that leg raises on the floor or in the air and static holds for abs are much better for an all aroung ab workout and is safer. DONT DO CRUNCHES. Do the exercizes on this website and leg raises on the floor in the air--it is better!!!!!
It doesn't matter how you do them crunches are no good. TRUST ME
