On some nights, I get as little as 3-5 hours sleep. This happens esp when I get up early in the morning (I have a tendency to be a night owl).
I notice on those days, by nightime I get headaches. I also found out something interesting. On days when I get enough sleep my blood pressure is normal (usually 120/70), but when I checked my blood pressure in the store on a day when I didn't get enough sleep, it was high (135/80). I also notice my heart pounding more, but after I take an ibuprofen the headache and heartbeat subside.
I wonder if the effects of the lack of sleep are normal, or should I see a doctor? I guess I just need to make sure I get enough sleep.

Getting enough sleep is always a challenge, especially when an active mind wakes us after less than say 7-8 hours. But good sleep does indeed help keep blood pressure down, improves your resistance to colds and other ailments and also - surprisingly - makes you a better worker in 8 hours than some people are in 12.

At least that is what I have read. Based on my own observations it seems to be true.

I'm wondering about the connection. I have Fibromyalgia and NEVER get enough sleep - since I've been diagnosed my BP has been high, used to be low, now today for instance (but I went in w/cold and/or allergy congestion) it was 138/80 - what I wouldn't give for a full night of restful sleep....
