Hey everyone....i just found out that my mom has a liver disease and the doctor said she would need a transplant after a while because it would only get worse...she has been on a strict diet and taking medicines for the last 3 years after first discovering the problem...well they said it was getting better like a year and a half ago...but she started getting pain in her abdominal area really bad and found it hard to sleep lot of nights....so she went back to a doctor to check on things and they took a biopsy and the results were not good ...my mom basically walked out of the office after hearing she would need a transplant and treatment later on because the insurance at her work doesn't cover that kind of treatment and she has only 200 bucks in her bank account and i'm unemployed at the moment ....so really i am lost and don't know what to tell her because i have little knowledge of the medical system and the way different insurances work....is there anything else i could do or she can do to get her help and maybe get a transplant or treatment?

I guess it depends as to what's causing the problem and so what did her physician say about it? Is it an viral hepatitis or cirrhosis from Mod cutalcohol or possibly fatty liver (NAFLD) Mod cut?

Razor Rob

I'm not a physician so i can only offer some nutritional advice as i've been in the health and fitness industry for years but you may have her look into the herb Milk Thistle as there's been alot of info out on it over the years about it helping to restore some function of the liver as she might want to research it and ask her physician about that.

I wonder if she could incorporate 30 min of cardio a day and continue to be vigilent on her diet as i've read some research about the SAD or Standard American Diet with little exercise having an NAFL link as i'll post a couple of Science Daily links since you mentioned that it's not from alcohol or hepatitis and let you decide what you think as i hope it goes well for her and hopefully some others will post about it .

Yes Rob, The Milk Thistle is a type of liver cleanser. I believe it's an herb for detoxifying the liver. I pray Your mother gets better. But I would def. look into the Milk Thistle as 6-3 said.

Oh trust me as i totally understand about being tired from the job and then trying to exercise as i've been there myself. What helped me and many others is going to exercise/workout first thing in the morning before going to work as it's out of the way for the rest of the day. I'll post a link to an University of Missouri study showing how exercise has a profound effect on NAFLD so you can see some of the research out there.

I wonder if there is an YMCA where she lives as it's a non hard core gym as they offer so many different programs and/or things for exercise in an fun and relaxed enviroment compared to some of the hard core meat market types.
