I was skipping merrily along until I hit 50 when suddenly I came to and realized, I'm old as dirt! I haven't been able to shake that feeling since then and that was nearly two years ago.

My biggest worry is I'll get younger every day.

Every week I do a count of the wrinkles on my face. A week later I do yet another count. And if the number of wrinkles counted has decreased from the week before, into a panic attack I go!

Scream, yell, kick the walls, scare the neighbors!

This advice is no help to the fiercely independent, the extremely proud, who'd prefer to curl up and die before asking for help, or falling dependent on someone, even a loved on.

I lost a partner to AIDS, and when he got to that stage he soiled his pants the first time, he said: It's all over! I will not have someone changing my pants, it's time to go!

I would have changed those dirty pants for the next 10 years with a smile each time.

With the help of morphine, he elected to starve himself to death. Proud as an eagle to his very last breath.

I'm much the same. Never, ever, ever would I impose on someone like that no matter how much love there was.

I've worked in any number of LT care facilities and I've seen any number of these proud creatures.

A 90 year old man falls on the floor. I offer a hand to get help get him back on his feet. The response: I'm perfectly capable of getting myself off this floor, it may take awhile, but I don't need your help! Go away!
