Just because something has a long name, doesn't mean it's bad!
a vinegar rinse will get rid of the "gross film" you mention and leave your hair squeaky clean, soft and manageable.

I totally love my L'Occitane shampoo. It's formulated with a natural origin vegetable complex of 5 essential oils. The lavender scent is absolutely fantastic and it leaves my hair squeaky clean and soft without irritating my scalp. It's perfect for any type of hair especially hair that's dry and damaged, coloured or chemically treated. I don't even need to use a conditioner! My only complaint is that it's a little pricey at RM75 (USD 24).
