LOS ANGELES - Barred from using lead in children's jewelry because of its toxicity, some Chinese manufacturers have been substituting the more dangerous heavy metal cadmium in sparkling charm bracelets and shiny pendants being sold throughout the United States, an Associated Press investigation shows.
Boycott everything you can.
We didn't usted have all these problems when everything was made here in the US.
Lead? I think the toxic effects are over-rated. Kids used to each lead paint chips.
When our house was being built there was a leaded paint that was used to seal the plumbing joints. For months our water had the oily residue floating on it. We drank it anyway.
We did not get sick. That was many years ago. We also handles those lead fishing weights a lot.
Cadmium is that the same cadmium that is in many artist's colors? Cadmium yellow, Cadmium red light, etc.? I never hear dire warnings for artists about handling those paints ...
although every artist knows about ventilation and other potential harmful effects of those art supplies I hope.
