Eating healthy is a passion for me but my only problem is when I am at home and decide to allow myself a healthy snack on say a Saturday night I literally have an anxiety attack on choosing what food. I finally choose one tiny sliver of cheese but this doesn't seem right. I had already eaten a full meal of Sushi so I really didn't need a snack but I just thought it would be ok but man. Do other people experience this at all Sometimes at work (I work in a grocery store) I walk around and around the store attempting to purchase an appropriate lunch and finally have time to purchase a one power type bar and that is it or I have to go with no lunch because I can't bring myself to risk eating anything that is not healthy GRRRRR....what the heck

Any time you let mental anxiety start to rule you, you're potentially walking down a dangerous path. Please take care and remember that you are always in control. You can have that one less than perfect (but still pretty darn good!) snack or lunch and it is not going to be the end of the world. You can decide to save time and be NEARLY perfect, instead of using all your time and being COMPLETELY perfect (and not eating)...

Please just be careful - you don't want to be come so anxious about the food that you become ocd.

take care!

Like a real anxiety attack or you are just flippin annoyed because nothing looks good?

With the store thing, I just don't understand. There is tons of stuff that is healthy. Does your store carry fruit salad, bagged salad, nuts etc?

No my heart beats fast and I worry because I don't want to eat something with to many calories or something that will bind me up yet I want to get the correct vitamins and not feel fat I don't want a salad I will feel much too full and salad dressings far to many calories and fat and possible high fructose corn syrup. I would also like to have something organic and maybe close to liquid and maybe even raw.....I don't want a package of nuts because they are to salty and they will bloat be up. They only sell huge packages and I want a small one that I can just take the edge off. I would like some banana chips but I don't want a whole pound.

Why can't you purchase a large bag of nuts or banana chips and ration portions out into tupperware that are sealed? Keep them at work or in your car for when you get an urge to snack. I like snaking on cereal, pita chips, grapes, and dried prunes. Just trying to find foods without any type of corn syrup is enough to make you totally crazy.

Not all salad dressings are full of corn syrup & calories. You can use plain red wine ving + black pepper.(which basically tastes like the zestiest italian dressing ever) They do sell unsalted nuts.

I could see it being:
a) an issue that is stemming from something else going on outside of food that is venting itself in food anxiety
b) you just started learning how to eat better and have not found what to buy yet

What do you think it is?

I was (b) when I was trying to find the better for you foods. I was more irritated than anxious. Can you pack a lunch? Its not really a bad thing to not want to eat corn syrups, tons of salt, chemicals and to want to avoid overeating.

You are not going to get perfect nutrition from one meal. I would not worry about that. Just take a multi-vitamin + calcium in addition to what you eat daily. I am assuming you know about calories so just stick to the calorie level for your meal.

What about certain foods make you feel fat?

If you think your eating behavior has moved past a normal concern for health and into disordered territory, I think it is wise of you to consider if you might have a problem. Maybe you do, maybe you don't, I can't say. But if you think that maybe you do, then perhaps you should make an appointment to speak to an eating disorder specialist before you get in too deep.
