the morning after pill is just a high dose of birth control pills. taking high doses freqiuently would increase the risk of side effects,. such as blood clots, stroke, and the developement of estrogen dependent cancers.
When does she take the morning after pill? After every time you have sex?? That's not good...and it's unnecessary.
If she takes the pill properly (within 60 minutes of the same time, every single day) and you ALSO use condoms, you have basically 0% of getting pregnant.
I've been on the pill for about 8 years now, sexually active the whole time, never used condoms and I've never gotten pregnant. Not even once.
I wouldn't repeatedly take the morning after pill, it's not made for regular use. Regular birth control pills and condoms are more than plenty. She's not actually preventing anything, just opening herself up to an increased risk in side effects. Who is this pharmacist that's regularly giving her the morning after pill??
I have a girlfriend who is very paranoid about getting pregnant. She uses condoms, takes birth control pills AND takes the morning after pill.
Does taking both of these have any bad effects?
Well after even getting off the regular pill she is going to have problems with her hormones resetting. I am anti-pill because of what I have seen those older than me go through during the re-adjustment phase and the risk of cancer and stroke.
"If you use the morning after pill frequently, it may cause your period to be irregular. Emergency contraception should not be used as a form of ongoing birth control because it is less effective."
Plenty of people have problems with abortifacients. But what she is doing is just bad for her body. Its excessive hormone exposure which can lead to cancer.
Maybe talk to a naturalist in you area about neem pills as a male birth control. If you want to help give her peace of mind.
I would have huge concerns about her health taking the morning after pill along with the birth control pills. Talk to her about your concern and have her consult her GYN. Are you sure she is doing this? I didn't think the morning after pill was that easy to get.
I would worry about the general mental health of someone this concerned about getting pregnant. The worry about the pills seems minor to me. This just isn't a healthy attitude.
