So there's one cause.
And how do you know how smooth her hands are? Nudge nudge.

Do you know why her hands are like that (assuming there's no Adam's apple)?
My husband and I never used gloves when we lifted. My husband preferred chalk. And yep, I developed callouses. In fact, I used to get pretty banged up from different sports & activities, but I was always proud of my bruises, wounds and scars.

In fact, I think my hands were at their worst when I rowed. We rowed in the winter (we had to crack the ice with our oars), so you can imagine the blisters and callouses I developed on my hands...all in the name of fun.

After she passes the adam's apple test, I would ask if she works with her hands. That would be my next guess. If she did I'd thought I had hit the jackpot.

It would depend on what else she was going to do with those hands.

If I were holding hands with a super hot chick with calloused, rough hands, I say, honey those hands need a little TLC and Id get my hand lotion from my purse and let her use it.
