I've worn orthotics for some 23 years and for the most part have had good luck with them except for the very first pair.

I just had another pair made and its with a new Podiatrist. They are very ridgid and I have worn them a week now. I can't stand them. They are so hard and uncomfortable it feels like I am walking barefoot on rocks. None of my other orthotics ever felt this bad. Its obvious I am headed for more problems by continuing wearing them. I can barely stand in them for very long.

This doctor was quick to bring up Orthotics in fact he never even had me stand up to look at my feet which are flat. I guess he felt since I already had orthotics for years why bother. I think these orthotics are way to hard and ridgid for me. I also don't think this Podiatrist listens as I definetely mentioned I felt ridgid orthotics would not work for me.

I imagine I am stuck with these orthotics and they are so expensive. They are not working so theres a waste of money. I don't think I care for this Podiatrist so going to another one would mean another pair of Orthotics. I assume a softer pair. Does anyone have any suggestions on this. I am calling this Podiatrist tomorrow and tell him these things are causing alot of discomfort. I imagine he will tell me it will take more time to get use to them, and I already know this type of discomfort is not going away. Thanks

I'd just bring them back. Orthotics, like everything else, is a consumer product. If the salesman is selling you a piece of crap and insisting that it's the latest high-tech gadget, then you need to call him on his con job when you discover he lied.

You warned him that rigid orthotics had given you a bad experience in the past. My biggest concern however, is his not doing a check on your foot. Well - not really that, but why did you allow him to even issue you a pair of orthotics without that check?

It'd be exactly the same as going to an eye doctor, getting a prescription for glasses, but the doctor never does an eye test. Would you waste your time with a doctor like that? Would you assume he knows what he's doing, or would you assume he's been smoking something and make a bee-line to another doctor?

Your feet are SO important..it's your responsibility to ensure that you are taking the absolute best care of them possible. If you see a doctor that doesn't meet your standards, or does questionable things, it is YOUR responsibility to question that doctor, or find another one that does meet your standards. Why did he give you rigid orthotics after you told him you couldn't use them? Why did you accept them?

Bring them back, tell him they're no good, that you warned him they weren't gonna be any good, and you want him to either check your feet and prescribe according to your actual current needs, or refer you to a qualified foot doctor who knows what he's doing.

I have them too and they enable me to walk. I can't walk without them cause the pain is so unbearable.

Sorry to hear the orthotics didn't work out this time. I would go back to that same doctor and demand he make new orthotics that work for you, and after measuring your feet, both with and without weight. There's no reason you should have to pay cause the doctor messed up.

Good luck!

Your absolutely correct on all your comments. I am very irritated with myself for allowing this. I had been having neuromas in one foot, and was always in pain so I guess I would do anything to help myself. The Neuroma was improving as I was getting these new orthotics so I should have declined this pair.

I have been to the Good Feet Store and paid all that money for their product before going to this podiatrist. I had absolutely no luck with the Good Feet product after a few months. So I guess to sum it up when ones feet hurt they will do anything to end the pain and discomfort.

I am calling the podiatrist now about returning these orthotics and take it from there. Thanks.

Thanks you are correct. I am calling his office in a half hour when they open.

Heh we had a "Good Feet" store near us. It showed up one day in a strip-mall, and then closed up not even 3 months later. They get so many complaints, especially because of a no refunds policy. No refunds, no exchanges. If they didn't fit, and you gave them money, you're stuck with fake orthotics that don't fit, period. They'll insist that you're just wearing them wrong, or that you didn't give them enough time.

It's a sham, really. They're nothing more than thicker Dr. Scholls inserts. You'd be better off buying Dr. Scholls; at least that way, if they're not fitting, you're only out $5 and not $500. And Dr. Scholls at least is more likely to have something to help.

Dr. Scholls is definitely not a fit-for-all. You're only better off buying them in the sense that you lose less money, but you could be totally messing up your feet. My mom mentioned them to my podiatrist once and he said that was about the worst thing I could have done cause my foot problem is opposite of the one that Dr. Scholls is intended to correct. It'd be much like giving someone reading glasses when what they need is driving glasses.

I called the podiatrist and they told me to return the orthotics. I did and they are sending them off to Seattle where they were made. I was told to include a list of what I found wrong with them so they can make adjustments. Thanks for all your comments and info.

Glad to hear that, Jim! Keep us posted. I hope you get some new ones made that work out for you. It's amazing what a difference a good pair of orthotics can make.
