Actually, I had mine out with intravenous valium. You still go through and are aware of what's happening at the time, but the valium makes you forget it all so quickly .. so if you can't remember after, then it's pain-free .. right?
I just remember my dentist with the pliers in his hand, thinking he was just going to start, when he showed me he had the last tooth in the pliers and it was all over with.
One thing about the intravenous valium though, you can end up talking about all sorts of things you normally wouldn't be talking about. It can be very embarrassing. We had many patients telling us all sorts of funny stuff, and seeing as how it was the guy I worked for pulling my teeth when the time came, I was a bit dubious about the valium thing. But opted for that over being put to sleep. Hope I didn't reveal all my secrets!
