It's said that the quality of eggs worsen as a woman gets older and older. With the number of "advanced age" women giving birth increasing in this modern scientific era, I haven't heard cases where children born to women 40+ have more physical or mental defects than children born to younger mothers--or is there? Anyone knows?

Absolutely women over 40 have a significant increased risk of giving birth to children with birth defects including trisomy 21....the incidence of Down Syndrome in women over 40 giving birth is 1 in 100...

Also significant increased risk of low birth weight, miscarriage, neural tube defects.....

There is also significant increased risk of the mother having problems including eclampsia, gestational diabetes and problem deliveries....

this second part due to the fact that some women are not as healthy as they get older because they do not take care of themselves.
But yes, our eggs are older, but it's all how you look at the numbers. When you see 1/100 it looks more alarming than when you see the actual percentage chance of having a child with birth defects.
Also,it is not as easy to fertilize an older egg, I think due also to the decrease of the right type of cervical mucus needed.
However, it only takes one egg to make a baby.It can and does happen to us women of "advanced maternal age" as we are called in the medical world.

Link please to verify that 1 in 100 babies born to women over 40 are Downs babies.
Thanks
