Only female gyno's. I just need someone that has been through it - you know. To me, women doctors understand the discomfort that we go through.
That's not to say they have all been pleasant. In fact, I have had just ONE doctor that has been wonderful and caring and I travel 60 miles to see her.
I think women doctors, just like women overall are a little more sympathetic and caring, but I don't care which sex my doctors are, just as long as I feel comfortable with them and think they know what they are doing. I had a female in Dallas that I really liked and was totally satisfied with her treatment and advise. She didn't think we needed to see a specialist every time we sneezed. We had a nurse practitioner in NM we loved. She cared, she seemed to know when we needed someone with more knowledge than she had and she would call us even at 7pm if she felt it necessary. Here our primary care doctor is also a female. She is kind, nice, pleasant to talk to , but we feel like she is nothing more than a referral a referral system that either says I want you to see Dr so and so, or here is a pill, take it, you will feel better or die. I am changing soon (to another female for that matter) hubby is on the fence, like a few of our friends. He wants to change, but his medical problems are a little complex and he isn't sure he wants to start over.

ps: there was a time when he was not comfortable with a female, this doesn't bother him anymore.
I am far more concerned with the physician's training and specialization then their gender. Next comes insurance panel. I currently have 3 female and 3 male physicians; I see a dentist, ophtalmologist, pulmnologist, allery doc, internist (PCP), and dermatologist.
I have 5 different doctors, 3 are male, 2 are female. The female doctors are the more caring understanding and interested in your problems than the male doctors. The male doctors go wham bam thankyou man as fast as they can so they can get to the next patients $$$.
I am always clean and showered when I go to the doctor.....but the female doctors always wrinkle their noses at me....write nasty notes in my records...and in general do not seem to know what they are doing.
The poll indicates my preference is rare. I'm a woman who prefers to be treated by male doctors. I'll see female doctors. I've only found one that is normal. The rest were irritable snobs. Overall, male doctors listen to me better and are more compassionate and capable.
Gender of a doctor is the least of my concerns. I have a lot of health problems so go to many specialists and even travel out of state for them. It is hard enough to find a good doctor and if I limited it to a certain sex it would make things that much harder.
I care most about whether the doctor is someone I feel comfortable talking to - and who is listening, and who has simpatico medical views. And at my age the idea that my plumbing is sacred is beyond ridiculous, my basic interest in that area is does the water still run and can I turn it off when I want to.
Gender aversion comes in only when I venture into what is called "alternative" medicine. I find the females in this field are. in my experience. wildly over the top in their claims and often very thin on knowledge of human anatomy, etc. and they tend to gush rather than talk. Thus, I stick with a trained- in-China male practitioner.
