Hi,

I feel pretty awkward about this but I need some help / advice.

More than one year ago my penis touched a used condom that was somehow stuck on the inside of a toilette in public bathrooms. As odd as it sounds but it did happen. There were fluids, I freaked out and tried to wipe everything off me.

After a couple of weeks I noticed some red dots on the head of my penis. I went to be tested for STD's and everything is negative. Now, after more than one year, I still have this problem on my penis. They are not dots anymore but they are like red patches: like a camouflage pattern on my head and solid redness under the foreskin. They come and go. When they come they will go away in a few hours or maximum a day or so. Sometimes they come after I took a shower, some other times they come with no reason.

My doctor sent me to a specialist who also ruled out STD's. He told me that they look like a fungal infection. He told me to use Lotrimin cream (Clotrimazole 1%). Lotrimin did not work but it seems to prevent the red patches from coming back too much.
If I don't use Lotrimin I can expect these red patched to come in a few days.
Every time it happens it doesn't last long enough for me to go to the doctor and show him the redness and the doctor, of course, cannot be sure what it is if he doesn't see it.
It does not hurt, does not itch, does not burn, there is not any liquid discharge. Nothing.
Other symptoms that might be related to this (might) are headaches (sometimes) and joint pain. Not very bad pain but annoying.

I tried also some "home remedies" like putting peroxide for five minutes a day, putting some plain yogurt on it so the bacteria from the yogurt would fight my infection but... of course they did not work...

Is there anybody who can have an idea about what this can be?

Thank you very much for your help...

Dan

The oil or oregano is a powerful anti-fungal remedy.
So if this is indeed a fungal issue then you may have success with it.
I'm not sure whether or not you'll want to apply it topically as well.
If you're near a health food store you can find it there ... otherwise on-line.
Get a good organic brand.

Another great natural product is Pau d'Arco. It comes as a tincture, tablet and tea. I've only used the tea... it helped clear up a stubborn toenail fungus...

If you do have some kind of systemic fungal infection, this could be the way to go...Pau d'arco

The other thing to try would be switching to a hypo-allergenic laundry soap and all cotton white underwear in case it's a contact allergy or dermititis...

Ask them to scrape it for a fungal culture to be sure its a fungus. Retest for stds including AIDS. Herpes can hide in the system from tests and does not always blister or hurt. In the meantime use ivory soap and a gentle laundry detergent in case its a simple sensitive skin issue.

common things are common.

it sounds rather like your public restroom incident may be a complete red herring...the symptoms you describe sound very much more like either a fungal infection, or a contact dermatitis (which can be precipitated by any number of cleaning products, particularly some shampoos/body lotions).

you really do need to get a second opinion. the first thing that needs to be done is once again exclude any sort of infection (bacteria, viral or fungal). if the rash lasts such a short time that you dont think it would be possible for you to get to a doctor in time, then there is always the possibility of taking digital photographs, which you can present when you do get to see someone.

aside from infection, there are a number of general skin conditions which can effect the penis, just as they can skin anywhere on the body. if infection is excluded, then a dermatology consult might be worth considering.

finally, there are number of much rarer conditions which could possibly fit. you mention some other symptoms such as joint pain and headaches. strange though it may sound, these could fit with a rheumatological disorder or autoimmune condition (e.g. behcet's disease and reiter's syndrome).

try not to panic, but do take steps to get this further investigated. the most likely causes are definitely either an easily treatable infection, or a skin irritation which will quickly clear up once the trigger has been identified. the other diagnoses are much less likely, but their possibility should not be ignored.

people with conditions of this type are unsurprisingly often accompanied by embarassement or reluctance to seek medical advice. you seem to have overcome this in the past, so see this through and get it sorted, and im sure you'll feel the weight of the world lifted from your shoulders.

good luck!

Sometimes something as simple as a diet change, prescription drug use, or personal hygiene can work wonders for fungal infections. Best of luck!

I cannot use perfumed detergents for the clothes that touch my nether-regions. Try switching to all white cotton undergarments and use only perfume free, dye free detergents to wash them. Wash them in hot and do an extra rinse after. Do not use bleach or softener. Also, I'd recommend switching body soaps. Try a goat milk or castile soap, both of which can be found at health food stores and both of which can work wonders for someone with contact dermatitis, excema, mild irritation, hives, etc.
