Reflux
I had reflux 2 years ago, but at the time it mainly affected my throat. I kept coughing and I wheezed as if I had asthma. The doctor gave me prolosec and it got better.
Now 2 years later I have had this constant chest pain, a little shortness of breath and a high pulse rate. I went to my doc and he said becuae I had all kinds of heart tests run from thalium treatmill, 3d echo etc... I was normal and he didnt think it was heart related. So he sent me home with prilosec claiming the pain is from reflux and suggested i go on a beta blocker for the fast pulse rate, which is causing my shortness of breath.
Last night the pain was so bad in my chest I almost started pacing, but went to sleep instead. I really hate how doctors dismiss stuff so quickly. I also hate that I have to find sitters etc.. to get in to see a doctor and changing a doc is a PITA. I don't know what I should do

Have they stuck a cam down your throat to see whats going on there? Do you think your pulse was fast because of the pain? How fast was you pulse? What has changed in the past 2 years? (weight, food, med taken, moves, throwing up due to whatever, etc)
I personally would review the signs of a heart attack and then ask the doc about talking to a specialist (gastroenterologist) about it. While waiting for the appointment keep a food journal of what you ate, how much and when. Also note any reactions like you had last night.
Have you ever tried the two glasses of room temp water trick for it?

Have you gone to an ENT for the reflux? Are you seeing a cardiologist for your heart?
My dd has reflux...I have found that apple cider vinegar worked wonders for her belly...At night I would make her 'belly tea'...warm water, a little honey and apple cider vinegar...

I agree - about seeing a gastro or ENT - the ENT can run a scope down your throat in his office and you can get some asnwers right there ...... But I would not drop it. Have you given the prilosec some time to work? Is the BP ok? Do you have other issues that would suggest cardiovascular disease? Is the fast rate new? Are you out of shape? etc. [But given your answers, I am not doctor but those are things I would be thining about]
I had horrible chronic chest pain with a bad reflux problem....though my pulse was fine. Anxiety about the chest pain could be uppping your pulse, too..........

Do you end up with a hoarse voice as well? Just curious. It does sound like a laryngoscopy is in order.

On reading the first post I thought of the Hiatal Hernia Acid Reflux as being your problem and by the time I saw the last post I was correct. I have had that problem of and on.
Eating food right before going to bed would cause a acid reflux after falling asleep and being quickly awakened with a burning throat from the acid almost to the verge of throwing up.
Specific food or drink can be the cause of the acid reflux in addition of the stomach being too full at bedtime.
I had the upper GI treatment with color photos via camera showing pictures of my reflux that I still have today and that was over 20 yrs ago.
I imagine they can/will have the same procedure on your appmt day. Good luck.

I had acid reflux and shortness of breath. I finally began taking digestive enzymes when I ate and then DGL to cure the lining of my esophagus and stomach. I am now well.
But I would suggest going to a different doctor to just to see what is going on.
