My uncle has no health insurance and he intends to self-pay for his procedures. One of the hospitals in Orlando quoted $65,000 just for the cath and my uncle would get 50% discount rate for uninsured patients. Does anyone know any other place/hospital in Orlando charging less? We are still trying to figure out why these types of procedure cost so much. Thank you in advance
I wouldn't be price shopping for cardiac surgery. If he feels comfortable with the doctor and the hospital then $30K for a cardiac procedure sounds reasonable. I had brain surgery in 08 and luckily had insurance. I was in the hospital for 48 hours. My total bill was $97K.

The thing is he feels that hospital is trying to overcharge him to make him stay away from using their service. They do not want to deal with uninsured patients due to some collection issue. I don't know if he is just imagining or not. By the way, it will be a 2 hour outpatient procedure. He is trying to look for another alternatives.
I think that is WAY high. My husband had a mild heart attack, several days in hospital, cardiac cath and stent placement in Greenville SC and that was $45K and that was before the insurance company took it down.
I had just an outpatient cath no stents and I think it was about $8K before insurance cut it down.
Can he get the negeciated rates shown on the VIMO website as an uninsured patient? Thanks
