Default Low Countires ca 1600 question

My Dutch ancestors were born and raised in a village situated in the Liege bishopric that was controlled by the HRE.

How would this be noted in a ships log? land of Liege, maybe? I do not read Dutch. My firendly priest is as clueless as I am. I don't know where to begin to search for the answer.

Anyone?
