Didn't read that thread but I just happened to finally finish that series (watched Season 5 finale last weekend) I can say that the Wire is among the best TV series I've ever seen. And that's coming from someone who doesn't usually enjoy crime/police/mystery genre. Not only was it fun to watch, it was really eye-opening for me.
