I think you would have had to been there, would have needed to experience to really know.

Everyone focus was on music, concerts and dancing in the 60s, 70s & 80s I really like the fashion back then because I love the time periods

What is the fashion today? Anything messy goes, no style.

Default Why is everything from the 60s and 70s so ugly?

I've found that most generations have fashions and styles that are wearable today or any time period. They call this "classic" clothing.

But the ONE time period I have to say that I completely consistently flawed by and can't say the same for is the 60s and 70s. Particularly the 70s. I've researched and seen how the early 60s had a very clean cut look like the 50s but progressed into crap on towards the 70s. Everything about that time period simply registers to me as ugly and hideous. Any other decade or time period, I can easily see things anybody from this time could wear. I rarely see timeless fashions for that period. I don't understand where those fashions came from after the clean cut 40s and 50s. Bell bottoms, platform shoes, psychedelic themed shirts, wide use of colors like yellow, brown and burnt orange and in stripes too (barf!). From the hairstyles to the architecture, is just appalling. I remember when I was a child in the 90s, some of my older family members lived in houses that were still in 70s fashioned with the mustard yellow flower-pattern wall paper and tile. Even at my young age, I found it unsightly then too. Why were things so ugly back then?

Eye of the beholder and all that.

Well thats just your opinion. I was born way after the 60s & 70s but i happen to think the hippy era was so awsome!

I think the past 20 years of fashion and design is ugly, but that's just my opinion and my problem.

It's nice that, at 19, you've encountered "everything about the 60s and 70s."

Beyond that, generalizations are seldom true.

Because in the heady rush to experiment, they threw classic design principles out the window. Just hideous, awful stuff was done in pursuit of being new.

Only in retrospect. It was glorious at the time (he says after burying his prom picture deep in a box of photos).

But that be as it may, a whole lot of 60's fashion has made a raging comeback as of recent, everything from platform shoes to mini skirts which are even of note these days.

Uggs, would have been a huge hit in the 60's.

I can only say that the 70s were the best decade of my life. Nothing ugly about it. It was an exciting time. Life was good. Wish I could put the 70s on an automatic loop and live there forever! I am grateful that I got to spend my teen years in the 70s. I was a little too young for Woodstock, only 12 at the time, but wish I could have experienced that!

It was a time of tremendous societal change - when people were bursting free from the cultural norms, challenging conventions and traditions, and trying new things and new ideas at a pace arguably unseen in any decade before or since.

Some of those new ideas worked, some didn't.

I agree that architecture during the 60-70s was the worst of the century. Fashion ranged from decent to disheveled.

But lets talk about cars. Cars from the 60s and 70s were the best ever. I'd push an old lady down a flight of stairs for any of these rolling works of art:
