Default Who is the earliest born person you've known?

By that I mean born earliest, definitely include people who are now long deceased and describe anything interesting you've heard from them. The earliest born person I've met personally is my great grandfather who was born in 1904 and is long gone. I remember he told me he lived in kind of a mud hut of sorts when he was a kid and told me how everyone in his village gathered around when they saw an airplane in the sky and how it was such an unbelievable occasion he'll never forget.

I would have to think that it would have been one of my great-aunts or uncles circa 1890 or so. Maybe a tad bit earlier.

My grandmother lived in our house when I was growing up. She died in 1971 when I was in high school. She was born 11/20/1882. Her older sister lived in another town and we visited on occasion. I would place her date of birth somewhere in the late 1870s. She died in 1969. Neither of them was the talkative type and I've always regretted not learning much of their early days.

The oldest person I ever met was a 96-year-old woman who lived next door to my grandmother. I spent an afternoon with her one summer, and she taught me how to thread a needle and do simple stitches. She also made the most wonderful doll clothes by hand and gave me one of the dresses she made.

This happened in 1959, so this lady would have been born during the Civil War, in 1862 or 1863

Mine was Grandpa on my mother's side - born April 9, 1897 and died in 1981. He told me about a time when he had moved to Ohio from KY and was trying to meet some new friends. He was befriended by a guy he worked with in a tobacco plant who invited him to a meeting on Friday night. Grandpa went, having no clue what he was getting into. The "meeting" turned out to be a KKK meeting, and when he realized what he had gotten himself into he promptly made himself scarce and never went to another one - they were certainly not the type of "friends" he was looking to meet. Shortly thereafter, he met Grandma and the rest is history!!!......

Probably my grandmother, who was born in 1892; however, I might have known one older. My father had an uncle who was married but had no children. We used to visit them regularly and have dinner there and they would give us gifts at Christmas. His wife's mother lived with them and we called her Grandma, and when she died, she was the first person I ever saw dead (at the funeral parlor). If I recall correctly, she was 88 when she died, and that had to be around 1968, so that would mean she was maybe born in 1880. I bet I could get my genealogy-obsessed sister to look that up for me.

My memories of "Grandma" are pretty clear. She was a nice, friendly old lady and crocheted an afghan for my bed.

My grandparents were all born in the 1870s. When I was a child I knew elderly black people who had been born in the 1860s.
