And old people with tattoos (although I suppose that's already happening with the aging boomers lol). Picture Lil Wayne and other rappers covered in tattoos at 60, at 70 hahaha.
There is not much 90's nostalgia because people like different parts of the 90's. It is as simple as that. Some X'ers will call 1990-1993 the 90's because they remember all of the hype. We were told that it was 1990's, the last decade of the 20th Century, so get with it. Other X'ers see the very early 90's as the most impressive part of the 1980's. "The Hypercolor days" were, indeed, the best days ever. Terminator 2 sums of the theater work of the HW Bush Era best. All we wanted in 1989 was wall to wall violence.
Then, you have the Y'ers who call themselves "90's kids". Most of them were born from '87-'93. They like the mid 90's best. They see them like the older X'ers see '84-'86. The mid-90's were the medium rare part of the 90's. We were definately in the 1990's from '93-'96. Clinton was president, Sheryl Crow was on the airwaves, and Dr. Quinn was that heartwarming show. The youngest Y'ers liked the late 90's better. They were into Third Eye Blind, movies like Galaxy Quest, and the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Some of them cannot stand 1999. They believed that the 2000's began in the same year that gave us American Pie, Britney Spears, and the Y2K Bug scare. The late 90's were not that long ago at all. There was just a Toy Story sequel in 2010.
The 90's did not add up much. Let's see.... Jaleel White and Will Smith were around for every year of the 90's. The music changed radically. Shows like Boy Meets World had nothing on The Wonder Years. To many X'ers, the mid 90's felt like filler between the early 90's and late 90's. 1993-1996 was just dull to most over the age of five. I cannot even think of any mid-90's pop culture other than Jurassic Park, the Power Rangers, Friends, and Wes Craven's Scream. When you compare that to Macaulay,Wilson Philips, Hypercolor,The California Raisins, Desert Storm, Rodney King, Hammer, Parker Lewis, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Public Enemy, NWA, Urkel, Zack Morris,Doogie Howser MD, Rollerblades, Nirvana, Ray Charles Diet Pepsi commercials, Eric Clapton, Homey D. Clown, Dr. Death, Dan Quayle jokes, Dream Team, Trolls, Beetlejuice (in any form), Blossom, 90210, Melrose Place, Quantum Leap, Where's Waldo, Al Bundy, Chucky the doll, The Divinyls, Polly Pocket, Rhythm Nation 1814, and slap bracelets.....we all know who wins.
If I had to pinpoint a year with "no personality", it would be 1996. I know that's random and I know there are some things from that year (shows, music, etc.) that could bring back some nostalgia, but is there anything from 1996 that really stand out?
All that comes to mind is Walker Texas Ranger and Jewel - lol.
I also came of age in the 90's and I'm bitter about it because now is about the worst time in the last hundred years to be trying to make a life for yourself. It's the Gilded Age all over again, with about 1% of the population doing great, 4% of the population doing well, 75% doing not-so-well, and the remaining 20% doing terribly. I find myself in between not-so-well and terribly even though I did everything right. People I know who came of age in the 80's, who did all the same things I did in terms of education and employment are doing great - they own houses, cars, cottages; they travel at least once a year. Me, I am still in debt from university 10 years after graduating, with no good job prospects, forced to move back home with my moms, spending even more money I don't have to go to grad school, and unable to even get a $600 credit card because my credit score is so bad. Screw the 90's! All the good memories weren't worth this.

Yeah, I don't see the appeal in stuff like Party of Five. The mid-90's got bored with themselves.I could not believe the change at the time. If you look at New Kids on the Block stuff from 1990 and compare it to the Backstreet Boys CDs from 1996, you would swear they are from two different eras. '90 and '96 are only six years apart. Most items from 1990-1993 have that leftover 70's simplicity feel to them. 1993-1996 was just meh. It was very forgettable. 1996-1999 was so close to the 00's, in terms of fonts, that you can group them together. The real transition occurred from '93 until 1996/97.

The Backstreet Boys were a 1997-8 thing. They made it big in Europe before they were known in the US though.
