No really? How come none of these inventions came on time like they were supposed to in the year of 2000? How do you feel now knowing that this future vision never came true?
Most of that has come to be, and a lot more, never imagined. At least looking at the pictures, not the actually article. Some of the stuff in the article doesn't really seem like very good idea. Washing meltable plastic plates down the drain doesn't sound like a very environmentally sound idea. But the technology probably exists to do it.
Really a lot of that stuff is very problematic in the real world.
The jet pack is essentially a small rocket, and could explode on a user's back, or could run out of fuel 50-100 feet up. That's not enough to use a parachute, but it's high enough to kill the user.
Flying car designers never thought of 3-D traffic jams and/or accidents until the 2000's, when a couple of movies explored those possibilities.
Dome homes would be real hothouses, and keeping the dome clean would be a real big problem. Who wants to live with a view that has scratches, dirt or water streaks and tracks, and oily grunge all over it?
Most of that futuristic stuff was nothing but sleek design exercises. Making them practical and affordable wasn't a consideration. Notice the rocket man fashions- they never happened either.

Brings back memories.
I remember my 6th grade teacher ( in 1957) telling us that would be the way of travel in the very near future.
