Why Do African Americans Have European Ancestry? (Egypt, England, Chinese)

Overall, African Americans look different than Africans. They have much greater variation in skin color, hair texture, bone structure, and even hair & eye color. I once read that:
58 percent of African Americans have at least 12.5 percent European ancestry (equivalent of one great-grandparent);
19.6 percent of African Americans have at least 25 percent European ancestry (equivalent of one grandparent);
1 percent of African Americans have at least 50 percent European ancestry (equivalent of one parent)
Why is that? Why would African Americans have European genes?

Someone probaly already told you this but I'll repeat it. You have to have a minor semblance of knowlededge about American history to know that you are asking a rather foolish question.
White men of European ancestry FORCED their female slaves to have sex with them. It was a FREE way to get future slaves. Property, like slaves, were expensive.
THAT is how European blood got into African Americans. Even a small percentage of "black" blood made a person a slave.

The majority of diversity in looks comes from the mixing of african tribes,not from any Europoean dna. Despite what you have heard and read,all tribes in Africa DO NOT look alike.
This notion is not supported by genetic evidence. A majority of white Americans have no non-European ancestry.
First off, all human beings have African ancestry. I think you mean significant non-European ancestry.
The majority of white Americans descend from 19th and early 20th century European immigrants, not from the 18th and early 19th century native-born white population of the US.
White Americans whose ancestors were in the US before 1800, especially those in the South, often have significant African and Native American ancestry. The reported numbers have varied through the years.

There were consensual relationships, if you can call a relationship between captor and captive as consensual. I'm not sure such a thing is possible, but it wasn't always violent.
A lot of slave masters treated their "mulatto" children better than a typical slave (cushy house position, e.g.). This does not excuse the actions, but it is an interesting thing to me.

1. Black Africans can have a variety of physical looks. Ethiopians and Ghanaians generally look different from each other.
2. Black-Americans being "black" has much to do with U.S racial standards. Many blacks in the U.S wouldn't be considered black in some other countries. Rapper Ice T is black in the U.S but in Haiti and Brazil each of those countries would view him as something else.
It really comes down to a matter of perception. People like Rosie Perez and Daddy Yankee are not regarded as black in the USA because they are of Puerto Rican descent, yet Colin Powell gets racistly one dropped as black by others even though he is of Jamaican descent. The political semantics also slants and influences the way people perceive others and their own look.

I heard that more than 1/3 of the white population can trace their white lineages back to early colonial times.
Also many colonial descended whites have mixed with more recent white immigrant arrivals etc.

That's actually been a debunked as a theory. It was actually lighter skimmed slaves that often suffered more because their mixture was almost at times like a sign of infedelity or illegitimacy or being flawed or like an anomaly. Many light skinned slaves were punished and banished to the fields as field slaves.
Also many darker skinned slaves tended to be house slaves because the Africans often were needed to be the house cooks and servants and also breast feed the children etc. Dark skinned woman were needed for cooking. Many dark skinned males were used as chaffeurs too or escorting and protecting their owners and owners families etc.
Lighter skinned slaves and servants did not always have it better.
