The Battle of Lepanto, Christendom was saved from extinction at the hands of the Islamic conquest.
the forces of the Christian West banded together to defeat the largest caliphate in history is a story everyone should know!

Thank GOD for his divine intervention that Christianity prevailed otherwise we would be living now in a backward society under ISLAM

How do you account for the efforts of the Islamic people to keep science alive while European culture dissolved into crusades and witchcraft after the Roman civilization dissolved in the global winters around 635 AD?

The above sort of comment belongs in the religion forum, not here. It is not something subject to the historian's tools of investigation. History, to remain neutral, must treat religious claims as claims, not as established facts.

European science still progressed.

I certainly agree. Hopefully it will soon be moved either to the Religions forum or to the Polemics forum...

A bit of an overreach on your part.

Western technology was already rapidly outstripping the Islamic world, witness the conversion of the Indian Ocean into a European lake.

Important battle but Turks attempted again and again decades later for two centuries(?) using different approaches to invade the West- land routes in this case, occupying Belgrade and threatening Vienna twice although the Turks did rebuild their fleet.

In retrospect, they really could not have done more by sea in the Med. Takes a lot of and constant supply to maintain an army by sea.

I would consider this thread as an invasion of the history forum by a religious fanatic not unlike the Islamic one on Europe he so decries.

Well, we don't need to account for this, since this was all LONG BEFORE the Battle of Lepanto.

Roman hegemony dissolved. Civilizations didn't dissolve. The West decentralized and retracted and fragmented. But the post Roman period was called the Dark Ages for a reason OTHER THAN what I believe you are implying here. It wasn't without progress or invention. Ultimately, the West recovered and left the Islamic world far behind in the dust, for awhile at least.
