Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Saturday that Muslims first discovered the Americas in the 12th century, three centuries before the voyages of Christopher Columbus.

“Contacts between Latin America and Islam date back to the 12th century. Muslims discovered America in 1178, not Christopher Columbus,” Mr. Erdogan said during a speech at an Istanbul summit of Muslim leaders from Latin America, the Agence France Presse reported Saturday.

“Muslim sailors arrived in America from 1178. Columbus mentioned the existence of a mosque on a hill on the Cuban coast,” Mr. Erdogan added.Turkey's Erdogan claims Muslims discovered the Americas - Washington Times
Yet where is the evidence to back this up? What about maps as well as physical evidence and remains?

“another little hill on its summit, like a graceful mosque.” from CC's diary..
does not seem to be talking about a man-built structure.
still, this is actually the weakest of all evidences that the New World
was indeed reached, perhaps 2 or more times before Columbus by African
explorers.

and here is a link to the essay by Dr. Mroueh

think multiple pre-Columbian visitors have been documented. Don't think this statement in CC diary indicates Muslim but could have been.

so Mr Prime Minister, get some sourcing going

The nonsense coming out.

Columbus had thought he had landed in Eastern Eurasia, and defined everything in terms of the old world. That is, after all, why we used to call them "Indians." He also thought dark skinned native Americans were Africans and that the Carribs were the soldiers of the Kahn.

Historians understand that the man was confused.

There is not a shred of evidence that Mali made it to the Americas. The Musa who allegedly set out on the sea voyage that Afrocentrists retro-actively try to sell as a discovery of America does not even appear on all king lists and his existence is considered semi-mythical. In any event, the official narrative is that he was never seen again, not that he discovered America. There is no genetic or morphological evidence for African input pre-Columbus, and yes the science has been done, by Dr. Ruben Lisker and Dr. Chrisi Turner, respectively.

The Vikings and some Polynesians made it to the Americas, but we know factually that there was no extensive contact. Disease is what allowed the Spanish and other whites to conquer so much of the Americas, and that disease factor was there because the native Americans spend thousands of years isolated from the places where those diseases flourished. If huge fleets had come from Mali- one of the worst disease belts on the planet, then the native Americans would have caught some of these diseases, developed immunity and developed counter-strains to infect the Spanish.

It just did not happen that way. It all boils down to inferiority complexes from various cultures, representatives of which want to steal an accomplishment.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appears to be taking a page from the Erich von Daniken playbook. Find evidence which could remotely be interpreted to be something, and then claim that it is solid proof of that something. That cave drawing features a figure wearing something shaped like an astronaut's helmet? Therefore there were ancient astronauts on Earth.

Could explain why the Pilgrims had "Turkeys" for their first Thanksgiving in the New World.
