I just finished reading "Killing Patton" and found it to be one of those books that you just find it very difficult to put down!............It is the best "non-fiction" account of our involvement in that portion of WWII that I have read. It is not just about Gen Patton.............but provides detailed information on many, many other aspects of the war in that portion of Europe (Germany and the many countries that they had taken over).
I highly recommend it......particularly if you "grew up" in that era and were approx (10) yrs old when we got into the War.
I haven't gotten to Killing Patton yet, But Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy were really fastinating reads. O'Reilly has an interesting take on historical events and really makes you think.
I guess I will have to put Killing Patton on my "to do" reading list.
The manner in which Patton died, the specifics of his injury and how he lingered on make me very very skeptical of claims that he was killed.
Now if he'd been killed by "partisans" or an old mine or even the old fashioned plane crash sure....but with all the witnesses including Patton himself to the accident, I'm not exactly sure how you "plan" for a freak accident like that to break his neck and eventually kill him.
I would highly recommend 'Endurance- Shackleton's Incredible Voyage'. If you haven't read that you are in for a thrill ride thru history. Truly an epic tale of survival against all odds.

Maybe I'm missing something?
No, your not. It's an old claim that Patton was murdered to shut him up and get him out of the way. Of course, there is far more fluff than substance to the theories that he was assassinated.
The basic plot is that an OSS operative by the name of Douglas Bazata was ordered by General Bill Donovan to kill Patton before he could reveal proof of collusion between the US and USSR that had resulted in the loss of American lives. That and his general outspokenness. The car crash was staged by Bazata whom in the midst of the crash fired a low-velocity bullet to shatter Patton's neck. Then, while Patton was recovering, the OSS turned a blind eye to a KGB operation to poison him which resulted in his death.
Like you said, if powerful people really wanted Patton dead, there would have been much easier and more efficient ways to go about it. Still, some people will believe whatever they read and Mr. Bazata himself was quite emphatic that this is what happened and wrote about it in his diary as well as giving interviews. Those sources culminated in the book "Killing Patton". Of course, the author supports the theory but has also stated that while he might have enough to convince a grand jury to issue an indictment, there is no way they would secure a conviction in court. Meaning, the evidence is not beyond a reasonable doubt and for good reason.
I recently started the book and I've reache the part where the author(s) have begun talking about Bill Donovan and the OSS, and the collusion between the US and USSR against the British. Is there any evidence supporting this? This is the first I have ever heard of it.

Patton died as a result of a freak car accident.
Dear lord....with Patton alive after the incident and....nevermind, anyone believing this one is a lunatic. Enjoy.

JUst like anymore.....eventually a president or first lady or VP is going to die from plane crash, bullet, heart attack etc. Of course this is *impossible* and must therefore be a nefarious plot? lol.

Exactly. As though he, of all people, was going to keep his mouth shut about what had happened to him. Compared to this one, the "we never landed on the moon" fantasy sounds downright credible.
From the reviews I've read, many WW II scholars question the facts and conclusions drawn by O'Reilly. He's definitely in the minority on this one.
And many "scholars" question the Warren commission's report on Kennedy assassination, so?
