The attached photo is of my uncle Martin Asa born 1923
OR
of his father, my grandfather, Martin Patrick born1901. Both were born and raised in Brooklyn, New York
To me he appears to be between age 16 and 20. From his clothing do you think 1919 or 1942?

I'm a hat person and unfortunately I can't tell from the hat, as this style, boaters hat was popular from the late 1800's and well into the 1940's.

1919. Given the hat and the collar I'd bet money that's when it was from. Suit too - 1940s had a lot baggier, higher wasted trousers.

The sepia tone of the photo also suggests 1919 more than 1942.

1919. The collar is a dead give-away.

^^ This. That style of collar was popular in the late teens/early twenties and had pretty much fallen by the wayside by the forties.

I definitely think 1920's, based on the hat.
