His name would probably be familiar to people in the US military today but they might not make the connection.

You got him. He wrote an autobiography that is very interesting. He expected the British to come back and retake the midwest (at least) from the Americans long after the War of 1812 and they pretty much encouraged the idea.

After scrounging around the internet I discovered there sure were a lot of Indians that wore medallions.

I'll start a new one,

This guy was not an American and was born in the 1800s.
