Not so! You're just looking back from the perspective of 2008. If you remember Woodstock at the time, it was definitely not overrated.

And while there may have been some "sellouts" over the years, I think you're wrong about the majority of people who were actually there, too.

To loose cannon - The majority of the hippies arent sellouts. While most of them matured enough to realize that drugs were not going to bring about the peace and love they wanted, and that they would have to find a way to make their lives peaceful themselves, a few sold out and became part of Jerry Falwell's posse.

Eh, I'm not sure whether or not I'd go to woodstock if I'd been around back then (born 1991). The hippies culture of freedom and communal living always interested me, but the whole drug thing kind of kept me from actually wanting to be a part of it.

In '69 I was 21... but didn't make it to Woodstock.

Just the week before was in St Louis to visit guy who would become my bro-in-law. He did make it to woodstock.

Those were heady times... Woodstock, man on the moon, viet nam, manson, weathermen... two week later I moved to the big city... well, okay, Dallas. Went to see the documentary, seems like that fall. Love that janis joplin.

Woodstock was on the news every nite. It looked to be a mess but some reports showed it to be the event we hear of today. Probly a matter of perspective. It wasn't a hippie drug fest. There were good kids from all over the U.S. made to that event. Just good kids.

I was a 15 year old know-nothing in 1969 who grew up in San Francisco. Yeah SaladoSam, 1969 was a pretty heavy duty year, just barely ratcheted down from the year when all hell broke loose in 1968. In SF we heard all about Woodstock that summer, but it didn't seem like we missed out on much except hanging out in the rain and mud. We had quite a few mega concerts by lots of the great SF Bay Area music legends at the polo grounds in Golden Gate park in that era (Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Quicksilver Messenger Service, etc). It was just a streetcar ride from home, so it couldn't have been any easier to get to and I even brought along a PBJ sandwich to keep from starving like they did at Woodstock.

This summer will be the 40th anniversary of the concert. Do you think they will hold an anniversary concert at the site?

I was way to young 3 at the time. What I find fascinating is some of the no shows. Iron Butterfly and Joni Mitchell were en route but couldn't get there. Jeff Beff group broke up a week before. Lighthouse backed out. Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Bob Dylan, and Frank Zappa invited but declined. John Lennon wanted to be there, but wasn't invited.

I know Iron Butterfly was supposed to be there and play, but they got stuck in an airport and missed it.
