I asked my parents this and they said it seemed like everybody got along, people were not so materialistic, and there was less violence. Is this true?

What good things do you remember about this great era?

Well that depends. Ask my mother she will tell you this era was filled with drug using, free love and idiotic hippies! Ask my dad? And he will say "Good times" lol..
I refer to this time with fondness it was like a whole spiritual karmic awakening filled with hippies and new age folks...hmmm interesting! It seemed as if though everyone was for solidarity, peace and love!

You could ride in the back of a truck without restriction. It was smart to wear a seatbelt in the car but you didn't have to. You could ride your motorcycle or bike without a helmet. Beer was cheap and plentiful (though I was too young to enjoy it). Black Sabbath was recording some of the greatest music of all time. Punk Rock starting becoming big. Bread was a quarter a loaf. We went to Disneyland probably 10 times during the 70's and I never wanted for another E ticket!

EDIT: Shoot.. forgot Star Wars! Star Wars came out in the '70's. Jaws, Grease, Apocalypse Now... lot of great movies.

The greatest music this world has ever or will ever see.

Peace love and rock and roll.

Freedom !

Woodstock !

Tie dyed shirts.

Hair hair, long beautiful hair. Hey pretty girl with the flower in your hair.

Age of Aquarius.

The bad:
Vietnam and Nixon.

Hippies will live on forever. Which reminds me. I been told it looks like I have not cut my hair since 1969. I did though... a few times.
