Liberace because he was amazing to his mom. He also was generous and one of the hardest workers in show business. My mom was his biggest fan, so I love that he gave her so much joy and we had a blast at his museum in Vegas.
He and others touch my heart because they had to keep that part of them hidden. I can't imagine having to fake wed, and fear losing your job over who you love. Robert Reed and Dick Sargent were both nice men that had to pretend and live lives of lies.
My gay bff would've been Charles Nelson Riley. Loved how he Strongly hinted about his sexuality on Match Game, he was a kick.
My favorite LGBT people of the past are the dear friends I lost to AIDS in the 1980s. They were very accomplished wonderful people and I miss them every day.
Agreed. My favorite deceased person would be my deaf friend. He died of AIDS in 1995. I don't understand this obsession with famous people, especially the idea that they are somehow better or more virtuous than regular people. My favorite living LGBT person would be my wife. She's a treasure.
He hit the British charts in the late 60's and recorded on a few different UK labels.
First U.S. chart hit was "Your Song."
"Tumbleweed Connection" album from 1971--there are certain lp's that I will never get tired of listening to--NEVER! This is one of them.
I don't know how many lp's he's recorded but I'll bet it's 50.
He's responsible for getting Leon Russell, who I'm a big fan of, back into the mainstream. Leon had several medical issues and had problems with severe depression. Elton got together with him--told him to get busy with that piano--then decided "I got an idea, let's BOTH get busy!" The result?--"The Album"--recorded a couple years ago. And it is a great album at that!!
He's had his ups and downs in more ways than one. But IMHO he is the most prolific recording artist in the past 50 years. I've seen him twice in concert and he was great both times!
Elton John.

Thanks for pointing that out to me!
...and the OP mentions him right there in the second line of the very first post.
I'm with you, though--he is one of my all-time favorite artists.
