i realize that this transcends skin color (but i don't care); i'm gonna have to go with all of the vets out there. even after iraq, and maybe especially sinc iraq, i look up to the heroes of the world wars, vietnam, korea, thermopylae, and any other conflict that i have ever heard of.

someone point me to a thread that doesn't involve heroes by skin color, so that i can list the others that truly inspire me, like Christ (who i sincerely doubt was white), chief joseph, bodi dharma, geronimo, rosa parks, and tenzin gyatso.

I'm inspired by Chief Joseph too, and Crazy Horse. Among dead white males, though they definitely weren't heroes, I'm partial to the painter Diego Velazquez and am also fond of his hapless boss, Philip IV.
