I watched the ones were he went up the Niger river, Ethiopia, and I think he did one on Sudan, although I might be conflating with Gus Casely-Hayford's program.
Were I a rich man I would visit Lolibella in Ethiopia, the Nubian Pyramids, and travel the medieval trade routes though the Sudan- Chinguetti, Oudande, Tichit, Oulalta, etc.
Were I a real rich man, there are a couple of places in Africa I would fund some archeology.
I'll check it out. I hope it doesn't spend all of its time on the usual suspects of Kush, Ethiopia, Mali and Zimbabwe. It would be nice if it covers Benin, Asante and Dahomey.
I suspect he'll cover the whole topic pretty well. I'm looking forward to seeing it. Through an odd situation I took a full two semesters on Ethiopian History and it was fascinating. That was a while back...the Emperor was still in power. He's been gone forty years so things would be different now but I'd certainly like to visit.
I hope this is a serious program with genuine scholarship. Not something about Pyramids flying to space, and Yacob creating white people in a laboratory.

Not only is skip Gates not like that at all, he is both praising and critical of his subject matters. He is a fantastic scholar.
Everyone knows that I despise Afrocentriscm, "black Egypt," "black Olmecs" and all of that nonsense. Gates does not go there. This will be an outstading program giving you the truth of the past.

Good, all this extreme Afrocentrism that I'm seeing on the internet and some weird documentaries on the History Channel, are discrediting genuine scholarship into African history.
It's got to the point where it's practically impossible to have serious discussions about African history on the internet. It always devolves into people making incredibly bizarre claims, as well as black and white supremacists both arguing with one other.
