Folks, seriously. Existence of god is not a historical question. Philosophical, scientific, theological - but NOT historical. Existence of say Jesus Christ - yes. But not god.
You have spoken a Great Truth. That is more important than a Great Lie because eventually the lie may be uncovered, whereas a Great Truth remains in effect forever.
I call Christianity the greatest lie because of its effect on history. Without the Christian story, mankind may have been much further along in discovering the true nature of our lives and the nature of the omnipotent intelligence that oversees nature itself.
Perhaps I should have used the phrase "organized religion", since Christianity is not alone in its zeal for self promotion and disdain for meaningful debate. It seems to me MOST religions are like that.
Can anyone imagine world where the history of religious struggle never existed?
Imagine.
Left vague on purpose, as I do not exactly known what the greatest lie is.
Is it slavery? Moon landing? The cover-up of genocide on Native Americans, then using their names for everything a large Cheesequake etc?
Discuss.
I know this isn't what you meant, but the biggest lie to me is that "Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it", when it is more likely that those who dwell on history are doomed to repeat it.
Can anyone imagine world where the history of religious struggle never existed?
Imagine.
I don't know what you had in mind, but this is what I see:
Without religious struggles and the resulting wars, world population would be larger than it is now, perhaps ten billion people or more. We would have the same problems we have now, only much worse due to a larger population.
