My favorite:
"Nero fiddled while Rome burned".
He did not. Rome burned around 67 CE. The violin was not invented yet, and would not be invented for another 1500 years!
On top of that, records clearly show that Nero hustled back to town and worked alongside the general population saving who he could and doing what had to be done.
Nero's enemies started all sorts of rumors, including one that he had started the fire because he wanted land for a new palace. It seems the rumors never stopped.

Teddy would have none of that and in the next 3 years 4000 American servicemen died and 20,000 Filipino soldiers died. Add that to the 200,000civilians who died in the melee, and you some significant suffering. But what the heck, Teddy got his colony and that was the main thing.
I am not a Teddy R fan.

Indeed.

A good chunk of the senatorial class, especially those who wrote history, considered the entire Julio-Claudian family enemies, in no small part because they replaced many senators with lower-class "equestrians" in key posts in government and provincial administration.

Nero lasted some 13 years, more than most politicians nowadays. In the latter part of his reign, he lost the confidence of the generals in the field, and that led to his downfall.

Not much criticism of Vespasian, who won the ensuing civil war, and his son Titus, but the other son/brother Domitian, who ruled some 15 years in his own right, was, in posterity, vilified as cruel after murdered by court officials in the palace, circumstances of which are still obscure, but he too was the object of the wrath of the senatorial class.

The next emperor to be vilified in history is the son of Marcus Aurelius, Commodus, who ruled some 12 years and, like Nero, lost confidence of the generals in the field and was overthrown in a coup.

So, still, these guys lasted some 13, 15, and 12 years, so they must have been doing something right for a significant period of time, but vilified with a change in regime.

Nothing unusual about that in politics, it can happen every four/eight years here and there.

In Mexico, Mary is portrayed as a Mexican girl (they actually have an entire church devoted to that).

Racialist afronut nationalism, yet another inheritance from the plantation political identity system, great just great.

The historical Jesus was what he was - a jew of that era - olive skinned, probably short beard and hair.

However the portrayal of Jesus to fit a regional characteristic - weather it's Africa, or China, or Europe - is just a natural progression to fit the what people are comfortable and can relate to. It just so happens that Christiandom spread into Europe mostly. But where it spread into Asia, where missionaries worked to spread the word - yeah an Asian Jesus was used. To call that afrocentric or racist is an extreme view.

Also, if you take the Christian or Catholic faith literally (I don't, I border on agnostic) one can argue that this is also God's will to portray Jesus (or Mary) to fit regional characteristics, as the apparitions of Jesus and Mary that occur frequently in history (and have been prescribed by the Vatican as authentic) fit this. Maybe God uses a publicity agent that was schooled in the ways of mass media that said "dude, make Jesus appear as a white guy"!
An example of this again is Mary in Mexico. Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to the people of Mexico as a mestizo - dark hair, high cheek bones, brown. Not a white woman, not a jew. This is huge. In Mexico Mary is bigger than Jesus.

History's greatest lie is that there are different major religions.

There are not. They are all basically the same.

I learned this in Catholic High School. The class was called World Religions and was taught by Catholic Brothers.

They stepped through all the major religions core beliefs and showed how they were all basically the same thing.

The less enlightened people need to believe they are better than other people so the lie persists within all the major religions.

Yup. Something like a collective Christian duty to save the unfortunate brown skinned people of the world and raise them up in what they considered civilized society. The war against Filipinos who wanted independence by some estimates ended with the death of up to a million people.

All Jews started out as people of color until they were carried off to Europe by the (Roman Empire) also known as Italy. Jesus the Christ lived in the Middle East and Northern Africa never in Europe , by the way. However you would think that the Jewish population we're white Caucasian until you dig down until their DNA.

Do you know anyone who ever actually believed that in modern times, though? Obviously he was portrayed that way by medieval artists, but how many of them ever traveled to the Middle East and knew what the inhabitants looked like?

At any rate, a platinum blond Jesus provides a good sight gag in the popular musical, The Book of Mormon.

I have been in the houses of White Caucasian Asian both of red , yellow and brown hues, ethnic Brown Latinos also known as Chicanos and last but not least African American\ blacks. You would be amazed to learn about all of the African Americans who will not accept the Christian religion or rather a relationship with God because they say it's all about a (white God) Jesus is white to them.
