While the impeachement efforts against Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Bill Clinton are widely known, it seems like there have been calls to impeach practically every president, even if few have ever gotten anywhere.

Impeach Eisenhower! - Hit & Run : Reason.com

Is that just part of the nature of the job?

Only two efforts have been have been successful, Andrew Johnson, and Bill Clinton. Both impeached, but not convicted of the charges.

Interesting questions:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impeac...eral_officials.

If we are talking about US presidents - wiki lists 13 attempts, but I suspect every administration has had some attempts by the opposing party and WIKI is just listing the noteworthy attempts. As the previous posters indicated, only two presidents have been impeached, but none have resulted in a removal from office as a result.

Of interesting note is the WIKI source lists a trend of impeachment attempts from each and every president since Ronald Reagan. So yeah at least the trend is that's something every president will expect to face and most (actually all, if you look at the success on presidential removal from office) will get no where. Back in the earlier days I suspect they had other ways of working things out - duals and fighting each other with canes and all that.

They left out John Tyler.

Impeach Obama! (And FDR, Eisenhower, Carter, Reagan, Etc.) : It's All Politics : NPR

There were calls to impeach FDR for Lend-Lease

I suppose there was little interest in impeaching Rutherford B. Hayes or Benjamin Harrison for example because they were weak presidents who didn't do much, and the Speaker of the House was the most powerful man in US government at the time. (Although, Andrew Johnson and Ulysses S. Grant were also do-nothing presidents, and that didn't prevent impeachment efforts....)
