I wouldn't call American Samoa a country, that's why I took it as a guess. I've always considered it a territorial part of the US.

Hmmm, been too busy teaching world history to think of one on my own, so I'm using some help here.

I am a third part of an island that most people only think about as two separate parts. I am under the control of another island nation that is quite a distance away from me. I don't actually use the currency of the the island nation that has control over me but instead the currency of my northern neighbor.

OK, I spent way too much time trying to figure this one out. The island of Cyprus is now divided into Turkish and Greek halves. There are two bases still under the control of the UK (an island nation far away) called Akrotiri and Dhekelia on the southern side of Cyprus. They use the Euro along with Greek Cyprus, their northern neighbor and not the British Pound.

Still waiting to find if I won the prize

I have just found this thread, don't know if I cheated. I did narrow Cyprus down to an island nation that is divided into two halves, but did have to go to Wikipedia to find out about the British controlled bases.

Since it wasn't Hispaniola, the only other islands I could think of with two nations were New Guinea, Timor and Borneo. Borneo is the only one with a smaller third, Brunei, and it is an independent nation, so had to look up Cyprus. Hope that isn't cheating

Sorry, as a teacher I don't check in as much as I use to. It is indeed Cyprus.

So, if I am following the rules, it is my turn right?

I've got a two parter, the first one cause I saw it given close to the first of the thread and can't see that anyone ever answered it.

1) What US county borders four states?

2) What decent sized US city (over 100,000 pop) is nearer to 3 other state capitals than its own? (If I had chosen any of several smaller towns within an easy drive of this city, I could move the number to 6 state capitals)

No go yet. I assume you are on the county that touches four states, that is not including its own state. The counties in the four corner area touch three other states
