While Booth was known by three names, that was intentional. He was named after the English radical politician, John Wilkes, and Booth was intensely proud of the legacy.

Oswald on the other hand had always just been Lee Oswald until his arrest for the murder of President Kennedy. The press decided to go with the three names and it stuck with everyone because they always saw it that way.
