The sloop HMS Whimbrel was a part of the Alrlantic convoys and the British Pacific Fleet (above), being at the surrender in Tokyo Bay. A campaign to save her failed. She is laid up in Alexandria in Egypt. The Egyptians have not scrapped her yet, so still hope to get her to Liverpool, the centre of the U-Boat war.
