Not much to tell. My great great etcetera uncle was in the last group of witches to be hanged in 1692. My daughter said local information said that he was the last to be hanged, and the only one to confess. Not a very noble thing, I guess, especially not after the example of Giles Corey, but perhaps he was making one last plea for leniency, and he also had no family who could be stripped of their wealth because of his confession.
I would also suppose that watching five people hanged ahead of you could make you grasp at straws. Or simply break.
His sister served as a fine matriarch for our entire branch of the family, however.
It's worth noting that recent evaluation shows that the situation in Salem was actually a socio-economic one, between the wealthy town and the much poorer village. Or maybe I have that backwards. Nearly all of the witches were from the poor community, and accused and tried by the rich.
