Just because one should never abandon a chance to post a Blackadder quote - Blackadder is interrogating a staff officer suspected of being a German spy:

Actually....it's been the House of Bernadotte since 1818, so they are French. Charles XIII had no heirs and wound up adopting a French general who had served under Napoleon.

"Reichskanzler Otto von Bismarck (imperial chancellor, 1815–1898) allegedly called the house of Coburg the “stud farm of Europe” with some considerable contempt."

https://www.bavarikon.de/object/bav:...002498?lang=en

"Prince Albert’s grandparents Franz Friedrich Anton of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld (1750–1806) and his wife Auguste Caroline Sophie (1757–1812) very successfully tried to help seven of their children to marry into important or at least very wealthy aristocratic families in Europe.

Princess Juliane (1781–1860) was married in 1796 to the Russian Grand Prince Constantine (1779–1831).

Prince Ferdinand (1785–1851) married in Vienna into the rich Hungarian noble family of Koháry and thus founded the Catholic branch Saxe-Coburg-Koháry that would later rule over Portugal, Brazil and Bulgaria.

Princess Victoire (1786–1861) married in 1818 Duke Edward of Kent (1767–1820); in 1837, their daughter Victoria (1819–1901) succeeded to the English throne.

Prince Leopold (1790–1865) had originally wed Charlotte Augusta (1796–1817) the pretender to the English throne who had, however, died very young. After having declined the offer of the throne of Greece in 1830, he was chosen in 1831 as king of Belgium."

Also, many of the royal houses of Europe are descended from King George II of Great Britain and Ireland. He was a Hanoverian king, having been born in Hanover, Germany. He was also Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg (Hanover). Royals in Britain, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Spain, and Monaco are descended from him.

There's a good relatively short article explaining the British Royals history here -

Their child will be involved in American politics...guaranteed. Perhaps some sort of insidious plot to win back the land that Britain lost 250 years ago since the child will have American and British blood.

Either i'm crazy...or brilliant. Either way, it would make for a fantastic movie plot.
Or just a bit melodramatic?

England would be crazy to want the mess that evolved from those early colonies back, the mess called "America". Besides, they still have Canada, Australia and New Zealand. I suspect they're happy leaving those raucous, unseemly Yanks to their own devices.

The last sentence is most definitely true.

If you laid all of the old German nobility end-to-end they would stretch halfway around the world, maybe farther.
