OK. Roger Peterson - 21 yr old pilot of the plane carrying Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and J.P. Richardson - all more famous than he. The Richie Valens clue threw me as he had been referenced frequently on this thread as a running gag.

If that's it, I'll pass at the next turn. Maybe stormy night or Cali BassMan has one?

I am a local hero and presently many things are named after me. I was born in a small state, and became famous in an even smaller state, although they weren't states at the time. I was elected the first colonel of a newly formed group that is still effective to this day. I was instrumental in taking the first property from the Crown. Who am I?

I'm a 19th-20th Century figure born in Missouri. I founded one sports franchise in one major US city and built a famous sports arena in another. Neither of the sports associated with those venues was the sport for which I am most famously known. My partner in promotion was the grandfather of one of the most famous promoters of modern times, but I despised the profession he promoted and never became involved with it. I was also in the oil business in the US and the cattle business in South America.

Though from Missouri, and most famous for activities two other states, I was always known by a nickname which suggested a different locale.

I died in South Florida.

You got it. Founded the New York Rangers, built the Boston Gardens, but was most famous as a boxing promoter. Partnered with Vince McMahon's grandfather for a time.
