No, that is incorrect. Massey never appeared on the Perry Mason TV series. William Hopper played Paul Drake and William Talman was Hamilton Burger, but I forgot which one was the DA.

Although I was known as a Frenchman, the true location of my birth has never been confirmed. As a young man I made my name as a smuggler and later as a privateer at at time when an embargo made my business very profitable. I faced the threat of arrest from the local authorities, however when war broke out with a foreign power, I turned down an offer from an opposing country and aided the nation who's laws I had violated as a smuggler. I contributed to one of the most lopsided defeats in battle of one of the major world powers of the time, however a peace treaty had already ended the conflict several months before. After the battle I went back to smuggling, basing my operations on an island off Spanish-occupied territory, before being driven off once again by naval forces. Both a state park and a famous bar in a major US city are named for me.

The name that zinged right into my head is Jean Lafitte and if that is correct, I'll have to pass at the next turn as I won't be back until tomorrow night.

That's correct.. I suppose if you're passing then the board is open to whoever wants it.

I was a Pennsylvanian, a Marine, and a Biologist. I am considered the founder of a field of pure scientific research which, although it is familiar to everyone, a staple of pop culture, and has personally affected many people, has so far yielded no fruitful results. I was largely discredited due to discrepancies in my research, but others continue to this day to explore this field.

No, not Yerkes. Of necessity, I have to be vague about the field, because I was virtually the only well-known reseacher in this subject. I did my work at Duke University.

More hints: My activity was mostly in the middle of the 20-th century. Regarding my field of resarch, not only does the scientific community not know how it happens, the don't even know IF it happens.

I guess a major hint is required to keep this going. My field of research was extrasensory, and was known mainly by my first initials, my first name was Joseph and I was born in 1895.
