That's the one! John of Gaunt (aka Ghent), son of Edward III, father of Henry IV, would-be King of Castile, father of the Queens (Consort) of Castile and Portugal, and brother-in-law of Geoffrey Chaucer.
Your turn.
BTW, we've got an interesting pattern going here - last week, I solved one from jtur88, then you solved mine, then jtur88 solved yours, then I solved his again, and now you've solved mine again. How long can we keep this going?

Heh. Yes, it will be interesting to see if the pattern continues---for some reason Jtur88 usually can guess my picks pretty quick.
As a young woman I worked as dancer, at which time I adopted the stage name that I would be known for by the rest of my life. I met my future husband---35 years my senior--in a country where he resided in exile after being deposed from his rule. We would later return to our home country, where he would regain power.
After he died less than a year into his third reign, I became the first non-royal female head of state and government in my hemisphere--in spite of my lack of any previous political experience. The most powerful and controversial minister in my government was notorious for his roles in the death of many citizens who opposed my policies--in addition to his interest and fame for writing books dealing with the occult and mysticism. Although initially popular, I was later deposed and sent into exile.

Additional hint--my husband's previous wife was much more famous than I was, due to her life being depicted on stage and film.

This is a reply to the question in post #2400 on the previous page:
Edward "Butch" O'Hare, for whom Chicagos airport was renamed.

I was a fighting man all of my life. War was my constant companion. Little is known about my early years, the events and deeds for which I am known did not occur until I was old. When a leader of my nation was killed in battle, I assumed the leadership role. My wife was the sister of a man more famous than myself. The event for which I am mostly known was a six week military campaign that many have regarded as brilliant. In spite of my advanced years and poor health, I took personal command of my forces and led them in the field during the entire campaign. In spite of being heavily outnumbered by the enemy, we never lost a battle. We either won it or fought it to a draw, only withdrawing when faced with overwhelming numbers. We inflicted heavy casualties on the foe, while taking very few ourselves. I did not ever die in battle, I was forced to surrender to the enemy some time later. I died at a very old age in a place far from my home. Who am I?
