It is easy to idolize winners....but the real character of a man comes when he is faced with defeat. How he handles that says more than anything else about him.

Abigail Adams. He intelligent discourse with John added greatly to his understanding of issues. Though she was born at a time when women were not allowed the "front burner" she still kept herself informed and gave thoughtful consideration to all aspects of American life. To me she represents all the unsung women who did so much behind the scenes to make our country great.

Chamberlain was given to self promotion and lying and was a shameless "thruster".
As a Hoosier you can pick a far better Civil War commander, fellow Hoosier John Wilder whose "Lightning Brigade" of Indiana and Illinois men was one of the most dangerous units of the war.
