A few years ago I was introduced about a subject that I had no idea existed .. slave tags. I learned this from someone who just so happens to be a collector of these items. So to educate myself a bit more I did a bit of research. Ok, these tags, tokens or badges were used by the slave owner to hire their slaves out to do specific trades. As I understand the history, they were only issued in the Charleston, SC area from 1800 to 1864 (known dates). I have no desire to collect them myself, but just interested in the history. Has anyone on this forum have direct knowledge of these items or personal ties ..? I find this a very interesting subject and would appreciate if anyone could provide me abit more on their history.

Thanks....
