Default Why do lawmen have a star representing there profession?

Why do lawmen have a star representing there profession?

How dose the star fit in history and law, I wonder if the Star of David has any correlation with the stars used in the profession of law ?

Thanks

You got me going now
Badge History/Meaning - Police Forums & Law Enforcement Forums @ Officer.com
Each police dept has its own badge and or star and they all mean something different...but as I said.. the history goes way back in time...of course it was meant to identify who the "Police" were... Kind of like the Moderators have a Star.. so you know who the "Good Guys are!!!

I would guess that it originated with the Texas Rangers from the "lone star" state nickname. Just guessing, and don't know if it was used before the 1800's.

That interesting on the English using a star to be seen in the twilight, I'm looking into it going back to the time of the the New Testament and the Star of David , maybe, and remember the shield of the Roman soldiers ? they looked a lot like some of the badges seen today too.
Thanks for the great link too!
